No – the function is similar, but the purpose is different. Water softeners pull hard minerals like calcium and magnesium from the water to reduce your water hardness. Water conditioners remove iron and manganese, prevent scaling in your pipes from hard minerals, and reduce water acidity. A water softener combined with a water filter could produce similar results, but the water conditioner provides a single-step solution to iron, manganese, water hardness, and water acidity.
